Gottleuba Valley Bridge - The ‘red dragon’ has landed!
At the end of July 2024, a long-awaited milestone was celebrated on our ‘Gottleuba Valley Bridge’ project in Pirna (Saxony) - the steel superstructure reached the abutment on the other side of the valley.
With this ninth and thus final shift, a total of 7,200 tonnes of steel were moved from the cycle cellar at the abutment of axis 110 towards the abutment of axis 10.
Thanks to an appropriate auxiliary construction, the red stem, which had characterised the Gottleuba valley for a long time, could be ‘pushed’ onto the construction site area behind the abutment without any further measures.
Many people involved in the project, both from the client and contractor side, as well as numerous visitors, did not miss this event and accompanied the final metres of shunting.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all those involved in the consortium, consisting of BEMO and Metrostav, for the successful realisation of this challenging project. The employees of Metrostav's steel construction division, who have been working on site for this steel construction work in recent years, should of course be emphasised. Of course, many thanks also go to our colleagues at BEMO, who literally created the basis for the steel construction with the piers and abutments.
Over the next few months, work will now begin on stacking the superstructure, which is currently still 1.50 metres higher.
We wish everyone involved every success and an accident-free realisation of these challenging tasks.
Good luck!
