Geology

Up to 2 m anthropogenic fillings, underneath fine sand, with depth changing to medium and rough sand. Approx. 15 m below ground level there is a formation consisting stone and silt, thereunder once more sand and gravel.
The foundation soil is layered from loosely up to moderately compact.
The level of ground water is present 4.0 m below ground (on average).

Technical Data

The building pit will be constructed for the office building „MK 1“,
which belongs to the Complex Grand Central Berlin.

This project includes
• diaphragm wall style with steel reinforcement and anchors
• medium high situated jet-grouting floor with back anchoring
• earthworks
• water drainage works

Base area / floor space: approx. 2,800 m²
Excavation depth: up to 10 m


Difficulties arise from
• inner-city location
• situated right next to the elevated railway route of the German Railroad Company “Deutsche Bahn”
• tramway routes in immediate vicinity
