Geology
The foundation soil is very different. The fillings are inhomogeneous, especially in the road areas and at the railway embankments. Below the fillings there are sandy and clayey silts. The next layer under is Emschermarl, where clifts are expected and water-bearing layers as well.

Construction of the Tunnel “Baukau” including operational equipment in the course of expansion (6-lane) of the motorway A43 in Herne during full operation of road and rail traffic.
New building of an approx. 550 m long tunnel, partly in cut-and-cover method and with bored piles incl. an approx. 180 m long trough wall as well as construction of civil engineering structures e.g. supporting wall, operations building, escape tunnel, retention basins for contaminants and the crossing of a railway embankment below a protective pipe arch.
